Hello Andy,I like your recordings although i am listening on headphones which i normally do not use. My Main setup is not operational right now. They do sound clean, clear and dynamic. Can you let us hear a recording of the live vs playback? This would...

I noticed quite a few speakers, various configurations, that sounded more like a collection of nice drivers wired together that what I would call a "speaker." I mean that you could clearly hear distinct tone, character differences between each ...

Ok that was a long road to "stick with vertical alignment, and stay away from BMS." Back to compression drivers, and implementation...
If I were in your shoe I would take make as you wish but wish a slight correction:

Hi Romy,I see now you are throwing around the term "absolute tone" in a relative manner again :) . Why would you want to neutralize absolute tone and with a metal tweeter no less!! You are talking about a tweeter "absolute tone" offsetting a po...

From Alex's thoughts it seems like one approach might be related to/interfaced with the program itself, such as RIAA or FFRR, etc., etc., even though I think those "recommended guidelines" have been only loosely observed by recording e...

[quote user="Romy the Cat"]1) Whatever it is, in the WLM speakers the PAC driver is not tweeter but a MF driver. My definition of tweeter is that it is a driver that covers frequency range AFTER a MF channel. There is no dedicated M...

For those seeking some decent compression drivers that don`t cost fortune, I can suggest to try the Eighteen Sound ND1460A compression driver. It has aluminum dome and polyester suspension and 1,4 inch exit throat. Does it sound like S2 ? Probably no...

Romy, of course I frame my remarks according to how I "understand" the issue at a given point, ie., dialog. If your response helped me to undersatnd your idea of this problem any better, then it seems to go back to the ...

Well, FWIW, my Audax LF units started life at ~100 dB and wound up closer to 96 dB to get ~40 Hz from them via ~ 4.75 cu. ft. BR boxes. Computer tuning was very close, only a strip of rubber weatherstripping in the vent opening between be...

Hello all (from Thailand)!I found this very intersting horn society here by accident and would like to show and share my first experience with horn speakers system. It's consist of 4 way system .[IMG]http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/gg69/krairerk/hi...

G'Day Rowuk,Thanks so much for the quick replyThe drivers were recommended by the person who made the cabinets. All three are supposed to be quite well regarded.Initially, the project was just going to be 2 x 10" and the Beyma tweeter, which in itsel...

Hello Roman,Hola from Hong Kong! How are you? Haven't been here for long time. I have a question at the back of my mine for long time, and it may have been covered elsewhete in your blog before. I am asking it here but do point me to the thread if it...

Hi i am a new forum member and recently i built some speakers using Altec model 19 components 416-8b & 802 G. I built some 7.5 cu ft cabinets with two 4" diameter 5" deep ports this is the optimum cabinet size for the 416 i ditched the 811 horns ...

So, with this horn I got the sound I was dreaming for!Currently system consists of 4 channels:1. RAAL Lazy Ribbon (14k+)2. JBL 2453 in 550Hz LeCleach (1200 - 14k)3. JBL 2490 in first part of own JBL horn (300-1200)4. 12" Supravox in 42Hz 2m long horn...

Operating a driver in an open baffle will cause front-to-back sound wave cancellation, aka the acoustical short circuit. In addition to this, a plane board baffle offers zero air load to the drivers cone. This is not good. That's why it sounded like ...

Last time we wrote you thought I should focus less on tweeters and more on midbass.I am not done yet, but I have found a very nice midbass solution. Somewhat unorthodox, maybe.I have come to love police sirens! Without having A/B compared it to a pai...

Hello Dan,Love how you pass that cable through the port, I used to do that too...long time ago.Why are you crossing your 250hz horn all the way up to 1 khz?The 2445 should be able to go much lower. Have you measured the response you are getting from...

Maybe I'm not following novygera but isn't that what electrostatic speakers already do? I mean the full range ones. I thought some of Magnepan's smaller models only had quasi ribbon drivers also. I agree that it is not likely that one type of speaker...

Thanks for the detailed answers. I will explain my setup. You are right about the dipole bass correction instead of the injection channel. Since I am waiting for both a subwoofer and the Fane Studio 8M and their horn, I am using the 12" as a b...

Make the full-range and then you will see where you are.
Still, I feel that for MF channels it is beneficial for do with a good DHT output
stage instead of 6C33C and perhaps it is a good idea to use DHT driver as well.
So, when you strategy your 5...

[quote user="Paul S"] The "calm HF" effect is something I have long sought but seldom experienced from repro, and I have blamed the amps as much as the ribbons. Mere HF extension is not enough. Hard to say whether the amp or the rib...

Alas, not much time to deliver the promised treatise...So, tantalisingly, I will suggest this; for the range 1k up, you would have no problem getting a small mumetal OPT made suitable for the 6C33/S2 combination. Actually, I have something simil...

Hi,[quote user="Romy the Cat"]
I lately have some reasons to think about optimum requirements for SET’s out transformer if the amp handles juts a narrows bandwidth. For instance let pretend that we have 2 monoblock and each of them drive: LF <10...

Ah, those figures seem more reasonable - 30pF seemed a bit low. Well, I'm not sure what you should be on the lookout for - as you say, it's a completely different animal to having a 3uF in line with the S2. What I would suggest, and this isn't ...

Their are a pair of Pioneer Beryllium ribbon tweeters on ebay
with about 8 hours left (Item number: 5790340383) for US$25
The part number is PT-R14A, maybe a distant cousin to the TADs??

Hi Romy,I think you may be struggling to get 10-12db of gain out of a spud amp (the term is a play on "one tuber").... May just about get it with 6C45.... remember you will be stepping down something like 12 to 18:1 on the OPT.best case: 10db require...

The EV 350 cones are still available form many sources, they are $25 per cone. There are some other phenolic domes for 1” driver, or smaller. I do not know anyone who does 3”-4” phenolic domes that would make them suitable for MF drivers.
As far as ...

I emailed to Bo and he said that they can't provide individual units. There is another interesting drier out there. It is RBN180 18” toll ribbon with reported sensitivity of 110dB
